3 Cell Module

Cell Module, mounted on each serial cell or group of paralleled cells. Cell module type from EMUS assortiment is selected according balancing current requirement, e.g for 50-100Ah cell is appropriate to choose 0.7A balancing current cell module Small type. It is helpful to calculate by such ratio: cell capacity (Ah) = ~0.5- 1% required balancing current. This ratio depends according to cells quality (inbalance), over system thermal management capabilities.

4 Current Sensor

EMUS support three types of current sensors: busbar dual range, closed loop hall effect and third party “Isabellenhütte” IVT series current sensors.

5 Control Unit

EMUS G1 Control Unit (or simply Control Unit) is the main controller that autonomously executes all core and utility functions of battery management.

It connects to user’s PC via USB port and allows to make BMS system configuration via EMUS Control Panel.

EMUS G1 Control Unit is also equipped with a non isolated CAN interface. This interface is multipurpose, and enables the Control Unit to:
• Communicate with other CAN equipped EMUS G1 BMS components
• Control certain third-party charging devices
• Transmit BMS activity data (either periodically or by request)
• Receive new configuration parameter values and other special messages

EMUS Distributed Regular BMS is the most simple and lowest costs system suitable for Lithium-ion chemistry battery packs in e-mobility, electric energy storages (EES) applications where modularity is not required. It is ideal for applications where are used medium to high capacity prismatic, or paralleled cylindrical or pouch cells connected in series (minimum 4 cells and maximum 80 cells).

With such BMS system the whole battery pack is controlled by Control Unit which has interface to Cell Modules that are directly mounted on Lithium chemistry battery cells. Each Cell Module measures cell’s voltage and temperature and returns this information back to Control Unit via communication wire. The Cell Modules are interconnected with a single communication wire running from module to module. The first Cell Module (at the “–” terminal of the pack) and last Cell Module (at the “+” of the pack) are connected to Control Unit via optical Top/Bottom Isolators which perform data interface adaption and ensure Control Unit circuit isolation from high voltages of the battery pack.

Including EMUS Closed Loop or Bus Bar Current sensor, or third party CAN based Isabellenhütte IVT-S series sensor this system is famous for:

  • Simple and most economic EMUS BMS for applications ranging from 9V up to ~300V
  • Cell module (balancer) on each cell
  • Wide passive balancing ranges per single cell (700mA, 1500mA, 3000mA, 6000mA), which provides efficient and fast charging process
  • External temperature sensors available for each cell‘s thermal environment monitoring
